Five-Year Bachelor in Architectural Engineering - Master in Civil Engineering (BAE-MCE)
Description
The College of Engineering & Science offers a combined Bachelor in Architectural Engineering - Master in Civil Engineering program. High school students can be admitted directly into this accelerated program.
Students continuing into the Master of Civil Engineering may focus in one area of Architectural Engineering or take courses among several areas such as: structures, construction, building systems, and architecture.
Architectural Engineers design the structures for buildings, determine methods to construct them, and plan the building components such as heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), electrical and lighting systems. Architectural Engineers can work for architectural firms, private engineering consulting companies, mechanical contractors, government, energy efficiency consultants, lighting designers, and construction companies...
Architectural Engineering (AE) is the design of all aspects of buildings. The major areas within AE are designing the structural system to hold the building up, designing the mechanical and electrical systems, and managing the construction of the building. AE is a very interdisciplinary field, involving in all aspects of the design. Therefore, you need to know something about features of a building. Architectural engineers take courses in architecture so that they are familiar with the "vocabulary" of the architect. Students will be in classes with both Architects and Engineers. Students can focus in one of the areas of Architectural engineering such as structures or mechanical systems.
Since engineering problems need practical solutions, our students work on co-operative job placements as interns in engineering. The experience is valuable for your resume when seeking full-time employment.
A Master of Civil Engineering is a great fit for an Architectural engineer since one of the focal areas of Civil Engineering is structures.
In order to complete both the BAE and MCE degrees in five years, the student must (a) be very well prepared as an incoming freshman, ready to take our core Engineering courses; and (b) satisfy all the admission criteria (see below), and c) maintain a 3.25 GPA, in order to take graduated level courses while still an undergraduate.

Admission Into the Program
Qualifications for the 5-year Engineering program for new Freshman are:
- A high school ACT composite score of 26, with a minimum of 22 in each section, and a minimum of 23 in the Mathematics section, or 600 on the Mathematics SAT score and combined Reading and Math of 1190.
- A High School grade point average of 3.4 overall on a 4.0 point scale, and the same for the combined mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology courses.
- Students must place into appropriate-level Freshman courses at 色综合久久 Mercy in order to be able to complete their Bachelor and Master degrees in five years.
Qualifications for the 5-year Engineering program for Juniors/Seniors:
- Students with a GPA of 3.25 and 95 credit hours can apply for the program near the end of their fourth year or in the beginning of their fifth year.
- Students must be on-track to complete their undergraduate degree in five years.
- If accepted into the program, students may take up to 9 graduate credits in their fourth or fifth year that will count towards both undergraduate and graduate requirements.
- In their fifth year, students will be registered as full-time graduate students, which requires that they are registered for 9 credit hours of graduate-level courses per term. These courses will be charged at the graduate tuition rate.
To remain in the program, students must maintain a 3.25 GPA at 色综合久久 Mercy, complete their undergraduate degree in 4.5 years and their graduate program by the end of their fifth year.

Advantages
- Reduction in the total number of courses required to get both the bachelor and master degrees (students may count 9 credits towards both undergraduate and graduate requirements).
- Ability to take up to 9 graduate credits at the undergraduate tuition rate
- Extension of 色综合久久 Mercy financial aid to cover the year of graduate study
The graduate courses which may be taken during the undergraduate program that can also be applied toward the undergrad degree requirements must be approved by your academic advisor. Students must receive a grade of "C" or better in order to gain credit towards both the undergraduate and graduate degrees.

Degree Requirements (BAE 147 credits + MCE 30 credits, 9 credits double-counted)
The course requirements for the 5-Year Bachelor of Architectural Engineering to Master in Civil Engineering include 147 credits of undergraduate course work and 30 credits of graduate coursework. Nine credits taken at the graduate-level will be double-counted towards the undergraduate degree, so that the total credits completed will be approximately 168 credits. The course requirements are based on the current existing requirements for each program separately.
