Certificate in Adult-Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist
Description
Advanced clinical specialty courses prepare students for the role of clinical nurse specialist in adult-gerontology. The certificate program includes learning in the areas of advanced pathophysiology, advanced physical assessment, advanced pharmacology, and the role of the clinical nurse specialist. The clinical nurse specialist courses include a total of 500 hours of clinical practicum experience working with a clinical nurse specialist in a variety of settings.
Upon completion of the post-master’s certificate, the nurse will be eligible to sit for the examination for the Adult-Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center or the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.
Programs are taught online in a flexible and student-centered format with course and faculty availability seven days a week. Students need not be a resident of Michigan to be in the program. Clinical sites and qualified preceptors are identified near the student's home to complete the required clinical components.

Admission Criteria
- A master’s degree in nursing from a nationally accredited program.
- A minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0.
- An unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in the state where they are completing the program and clinical hours are completed.
- Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.
- One letter of professional recommendation from someone in a supervisory capacity.
- Professional CV or current resume.
- An autobiographical statement of personal goals and objectives.
- An interview with graduate faculty.
