Biography
Michael Hovey is celebrating his 18th year as an adjunct instructor at UDM this year. He began teaching at UDM while he was the director of the Office for Catholic Social Teaching and, later, coordinator of Ecumenical and Interfaith Relations for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of 色综合久久. He retired from the archdiocese in 2017.
Hovey began his college studies at University of 色综合久久 in 1969-70, but when he was unable to return to the University because of his financial situation, he ended up being subject to the military draft during the Vietnam War. Rather than accept being drafted into the U.S. Army, he joined the U.S. Navy.
Fun fact: Back in 1951, there was a small, privately-owned hospital, Brent Hospital, behind Calihan Hall. Hovey was born there on Sept. 26, 1951. Basically, he was born on campus!
Hovey is thrilled to be able to teach outstanding students at a Jesuit and Mercy university.
His two main interests are the social teachings and lived experience of the Catholic Church throughout the centuries, but especially in recent times (from 1850 till today), and the study of world religions.
